Another World Is Possible by Z

Remember the time when anything was possible?

Once we were young and believed in the world and our parent’s dreams for us that our lives would be better than theirs.  Are we in a better place?  We are on a precipice as the world we know has morphed into something we don’t recognize.  What will happen next?

Another World is Possible.  My measure of a great country is a country that takes care of those who are least able take care of themselves.  Every life is precious and everyone has value and worth.  How do we equalize the society we live in so that each one of us has the ability and resources to fulfill the dreams of their parents?

Rather than going back, ask yourself this question:  What dreams do our children have and how will we facilitate those?

I was reading “Common Sense” by Thomas Paine and found this pearl of wisdom.  “a long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defense of custom. But the tumult soon subsides. Time makes more converts than reason.”

To me this means when we do nothing or say nothing about a wrong, over time it will be assumed to be right.  And the longer we say nothing, the more right it appears.

Clearly there is something wrong with the process of governance when we have so much disfunction and division.  I see a couple of things that will help. First, way too much money is spent on elections.  Rolling back Citizen’s United might help with this, as would capping the amount any one candidate or proposition can raise and spend.  Second, our representative to the House has a short four year term – and two of those years are focused on getting reelected.  This is an ineffective system.  The remedy for this is to have a set date for electioneering and raising funds.  Let’s try a six month election period with no campaigning or fundraising before or after.

These are some ideas that may help going forward.

What are your ideas?
