Good Little White Girl

In the “Good Little White Girl” blog Janet Carter investigates the ways she learned to be white, growing up in a white liberal family in the Vermont of the 1950s and 1960s. She invites us to examine and reflect on how we all, as children, have been conditioned around race, whether we are aware of it or not.

Another resource that examines how white children are conditioned around race is Learning to Be White: Money, Race and God in America by Thandeka. Tracing the links between religion, class, and race, Thandeka reveals the child abuse, ethnic conflicts, class exploitation, poor self-esteem, and a general feeling of self-contempt that are the wages of whiteness.
